About the author

Liu Jing's publicly available information is limited. Her writing and research interests appear to follow two threads: the language of excavated texts and canal culture. Four works by her are included in the collection, three of which belong to the series Studies in the Language of Excavated Texts (volumes 4, 5 and 6), part of the Language Services Series on excavated-text research. This suggests sustained involvement in the linguistic organization and discussion of excavated materials, with attention to interpreting such materials through language and writing. The fourth work, Ancient Cities and Towns along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, turns to social culture and history, describing towns along the canal in an informative and readable style. Overall, Liu Jing's writing spans language and writing as well as social history and culture, combining academic compilation with cultural writing for general readers.
