About the author

Liu Fu, whose birth and death years and native place are unknown, was the compiler of the Classical Chinese tale collection Qingsuo Gaoyi (Exalted Discussions from the Green Window). The library currently holds one work by him, commonly classified under Eastern philosophy. Public information is limited, and almost nothing can be verified about his life; only through the collection he compiled can we glimpse his scholarly interests and editorial judgment. The book draws widely on earlier notebooks, romances, and miscellaneous records, covering tales of the strange, anecdotes, and commentary in a concise yet storytelling style, reflecting the Song-dynasty tendency of tale compilations to value readability and historical interest. Liu Fu preserved many original pieces in his arrangement, providing valuable material for later understanding of Tang and Song social customs, folk beliefs, and narrative literature, and securing him a place in the history of ancient Chinese fiction.
