刘子儒

Liu Ziru: available public information is limited, and details of his life, such as his native place, birth and death dates, and career, are not clearly recorded; his writing can only be understood through the works attributed to him. The eight titles in the collection show that Liu Ziru devoted himself mainly to popular retellings of Chinese dynastic history, including the Romance of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Song, Tang, Ming, and Qing dynasties, and the Republican era. Most appear in modern vernacular revised editions, some described as extracurricular reading for students during the Republican period. Following the traditional format of historical romance, these works link the rise and fall of dynasties and the deeds of historical figures through chapter-by-chapter narration, in language aimed at general readers and young students. Classified as historical reading and Eastern philosophy, they seek not only to popularize history but also to comment on human affairs and draw moral lessons from the past.
