Liu Bing

Liu Bing, born in 1958, is a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of the History of Science at Tsinghua University's School of Humanities, and director of the China Association for Science and Technology–Tsinghua University Research Center for Science and Technology Communication and Popularization. A 1982 graduate of Peking University's Department of Physics, he has long worked on the history and philosophy of science and on the communication of scientific culture, and is the author of works including Science in the Eyes of Clio and A History of Superconductivity. His writing spans both scholarship and popularization: he has translated and introduced biographies such as Planck: The Dilemma of a Honest Man, written on the history of Japan's Unit 731 in Behind Bayonets and Barbed Wire, and repeatedly addressed gender issues in scientific culture. His works also include Hadoop Data Warehouse in Practice and essay collections such as Twenty Years of Reviewing Science and Looking at Science from a Different Perspective, reflecting an interdisciplinary background and a public-facing approach to writing.
