About the author

Liu Tixin is an author about whom very little biographical information is publicly available; his native place, dates of birth and death, and educational background cannot be verified. What can be confirmed is that five works survive under his name: the Changchu Studio Notes (Changchu Zhai Suibi), its Continued Notes, the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Collections. This series of notebooks, named after the Changchu Studio, is commonly classified under Eastern philosophy, and its contents appear to consist mainly of reading notes, observations, miscellaneous records, and personal reflections. The style is that of the informal essay, building up volume by volume and showing the daily accumulations and reflections of a traditional scholar. Lacking direct sources on the author's life, we cannot describe his intellectual lineage in detail; readers may instead take these five notebooks as the main entry point for understanding the man and his learning.
