About the author

Liu Liduo is a Chinese writer about whom limited public information is available; three of her works are currently included in the library. Judging from these titles, her writing moves between cultural essays, practical guidance on storytelling, and retellings of classical texts. Deep Affection: A History (Shenqing shi), published in the Xinmin Shuo series, uses an essayistic style to trace emotion and history; The Story Course: A Practical Guide to Chinese Local IP approaches story creation and discusses how local narrative resources can be adapted and put into practice; and Chinese Love: Liaozhai Stories returns to the text of Liaozhai and retells its love stories. The three works touch on culture, inspirational growth, and essays respectively, suggesting that she is concerned both with modern ways of reading traditional narrative and with passing on the craft of writing. Her prose tends toward a plain, grounded manner in dealing with emotion and story, and will appeal to readers interested in traditional culture and narrative writing.
