About the author

Feng Shu is a Chinese compiler and critic of classical poetic texts. Public information about him is limited, and few details of his life can be verified. One work is extant under his name, Shiji Kuangmiu (Corrections of Errors in a Poetry Compilation), a study belonging to the field of classical poetry. Judging from its title and nature, the book offers corrections and criticisms of an earlier poetry anthology or editorial framework, taking the form of textual notes that identify errors, verify attributions, and assess problems of arrangement. Writing of this kind does not aim at rhetorical flourish but proceeds by careful analysis and factual correction, in a concise and cautious style that reflects a traditional scholar's respect for sources and evidence. Owing to the scarcity of historical records, Feng Shu's dates, native place, associations, and official career remain unknown, and his place in the history of poetics is difficult to assess. Nevertheless, Shiji Kuangmiu itself provides a useful body of critical opinion for the study of the transmission and compilation of classical poetry.
