Feng Qiyong

Feng Qiyong (1924–2017), courtesy name Qiyong and style name Kuantang, was a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, and a renowned scholar of Dream of the Red Chamber, historian, calligrapher and painter. Long devoted to Red Chamber studies, he served as president of the Chinese Society of Dream of the Red Chamber Studies and editor-in-chief of the journal Dream of the Red Chamber Studies, and was the first dean of the School of Chinese Classics at Renmin University of China. His works include A New Study of Cao Xueqin's Family Background and On the Gengchen Edition. His scholarship combines rigorous textual and biographical research with a keen appreciation of the novel, while his lectures and annotated editions make the work accessible to general readers. The six titles held here range from Red Chamber commentary and literary lectures to historical readings and catalogues of Yixing teapots and Ming blue-and-white porcelain, reflecting his broad interests in connoisseurship and design and his plain, engaging style.
