About the author

Yu Guolin—public information about him is currently limited, and details such as his native place, dates of birth and death, and educational background remain unknown. Judging from the four works held in the library, his writing and editorial work center mainly on modern Chinese intellectual and academic history, with an additional focus on traditional Chinese classics. He edited or co-compiled Liang Qichao's The Academic History of China over the Past Three Centuries and The History of Pre-Qin Political Thought, both important texts for understanding Liang's views on academic history and early Chinese political thought; the two-volume Annotated Four Books, in the Chinese Classics Library series, reflects his editorial skill with traditional Confucian classical texts. He is also the author of Manuscripts from Yanggu Mountain Studio, included in the Phoenix Branch Essay Series, a collection of prose and miscellaneous writings that shows his output extends beyond scholarly editing to personal essays. Overall, Yu Guolin's work spans examination materials, Eastern philosophy, politics, and prose, with an emphasis on textual editing and the popularization of scholarship, in a rigorous and practical style.
