侯忠义

Publicly available information about Hou Zhongyi's life remains limited, and his scholarly and editorial work is chiefly reflected in the field of classical Chinese literature. Six of his works are held in the collection, all interpretative volumes devoted to classical Chinese fiction. His representative achievement is the "Masters Interpret the Classics" series, including a twelve-volume set covering five classic works, as well as separate volumes organized by genre: chivalric and court-case fiction, huaben and classical-language tales, historical fiction, supernatural fiction, and fiction of social manners and satire. These works are characterized by selected commentary from noted scholars and guided readings of classic texts, aimed at general readers and literature enthusiasts and helping them understand the narrative types, characters, and artistic techniques of classical fiction. The editorial format is clear, the categorization precise, and the books combine readability with reference value, giving them a certain influence in popularizing classical literature.
