Aesop

Aesop was an ancient Greek fabulist, traditionally regarded as the author of Aesop's Fables, though public information about his life is limited and his birth and death years are unknown. Legend has it that he was once a slave on the island of Samos and later gained his freedom through wisdom, but such accounts are difficult to verify. The hundreds of fables that survive under his name usually feature animals as protagonists; they are short in length and concise in language, often drawing a lesson about conduct from a single story. Our collection includes thirteen of his works, among them various editions of Aesop's Fables, bilingual and illustrated versions, and related translations such as Volume Seven of the Complete Works of Luo Niansheng. These fables have had a profound influence on later European literature.
