About the author

Bu Kong: Publicly available information about his life is limited. His identity, dates of birth and death, and nationality have not been clearly recorded; all that is known is that three works are extant under his name. In terms of subject matter, all three belong to Buddhist literature: The Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra of the Questions of the Bodhisattva Ākāśagarbha (unannotated edition) is a scripture text concerning the doctrinal questions and answers associated with the bodhisattva Ākāśagarbha in Mahāyāna literature; The Great Compassion Mantra of the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva centers on the recitation practice of Avalokiteśvara’s dhāraṇī; and The Method for Accomplishing Dreams concerns practices for attaining results through dreams. The three works are thematically focused, written mainly in the style of traditional Chinese Buddhist translations, and intended for readers of scripture study and Eastern philosophy; they hold a certain reference value within religious literature and philosophical categories.
