About the author

Robert Gravem Webb (1927–2018) was an American herpetologist and professor emeritus of biological sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), who earned his doctorate in zoology from the University of Kansas in 1960. His research focused on the amphibians and reptiles of the southwestern United States and Mexico, with particular emphasis on systematics and biogeography, and he was known for his taxonomic work on softshell turtles (Trionychidae); his 1962 work North American Recent Soft-Shelled Turtles is his representative title. Four of his works are held here, including studies of reptiles and amphibians from Korea and descriptions of new species from the southeastern United States and western Mexico, reflecting solid regional taxonomic expertise and careful morphological description. Public information is limited, and further details of his life and scholarly influence remain to be verified.
