About the author

Harriet L. Smith (1866–1947) was an American woman writer, born on November 29, 1866, in Auburn Dale, Massachusetts, and died on May 9, 1947, in Philadelphia. She made her name with the "Peggy Raymond" series, whose representative titles include Peggy Raymond's Way and Peggy Raymond's Vacation; the stories center on a girl's coming of age and small-town daily life, told in a gentle and lively style. She also wrote Other People's Business. After the original author of the "Pollyanna" series died, she was invited by the publisher to continue that series with four volumes, carrying on its warm and uplifting tone. She served as president of the Baltimore Women's Literary Club. Public information about her life and work is limited, and existing accounts rest mainly on her works and the experiences noted above.
