Shaler, Robert

Robert Shaler is an English-language author about whom little is publicly known; his nationality, birth and death dates, and educational background are not clearly documented, and available information is very limited. Judging from the 18 works held in the collection, his writing centers on adventure and coming-of-age stories for boy scouts. Representative titles include The Boy Scouts in the Saddle, The Boy Scouts at Mobilization Camp, The Boy Scouts of the Geological Survey, The Boy Scouts on the Roll of Honor, The Boy Scouts of the Life Saving Crew, The Boy Scouts on Picket Duty, The Boy Scouts of the Naval Reserve, and The Boy Scouts for Home Protection. These works are mostly set against field marches, military mobilization, geological surveys, sea rescue, and coastal patrols, using concrete missions to show the discipline, courage, and teamwork of young scouts. The plots are fast-paced and bear clear marks of their era, offering young readers a glimpse of early scouting literature.
