R.M.Ballantyne

R.M. Ballantyne was an English writer best known for adventure novels for young readers, though public information about his life remains limited. The sixteen works listed here show that his themes often revolve around the sea, desert islands and the northern frontier: The Coral Island tells of boys' maritime adventures, the Young Fur Traders series depicts the fur trade and life in the wilderness, and The Norsemen in the West retells the westward ventures of Norse settlers. These works usually follow a young protagonist's growth, with tightly plotted narratives that emphasize courage, perseverance and companionship. His novels are commonly classified as world classics and foreign literature, and they hold a place in the tradition of English juvenile fiction while offering Chinese readers accessible texts for understanding nineteenth-century adventure writing.
