About the author

Lyndon Orr is a pen name used by the American writer Harry Thurston Peck. Born in 1856 and died in 1914, Peck was both a classical scholar and a critic; under this pen name he published historical essays in periodicals such as Munsey's Magazine, often centering on the emotional and private lives of historical figures. Five of his works are held in the collection, the best known being the four-volume Famous Affinities of History: The Romance of Devotion, available both as a complete set and in separate volumes. These essays are noted for their brisk narrative and use of historical material, presenting the romances and personal entanglements of history to general readers with both readability and informativeness. Public information on the details of his life is limited and is not elaborated here.
