About the author

Methuen & Co. is a publishing house known chiefly through its printed book catalogues and educational lists. Public information about it is limited, and its nationality, founding year and the biography of its founder are not clearly recorded; only five of its works are held in this collection. Judging from the surviving catalogues, the firm was active at least into the early twentieth century. Its representative works include the Catalogues of Books and Announcements of March 1897 and October 1902, A Selection of Books Published by Methuen & Co. of September 1913, A Catalogue of Books Published, and A List of Educational Works Published. These are mainly bibliographic compilations, new-title announcements and textbook promotions, neatly arranged and clearly itemised, serving both as trade catalogues and as finding aids, and offering primary material for studying publishing trends and the circulation of educational books in the English-speaking world of the period.
