Lonely Planet

Lonely Planet is a travel content organization centered on writing and publishing travel guides, founded in 1972 by Tony and Maureen Wheeler in Melbourne, Australia. Its first guide, Across Asia on the Cheap, grew out of the couple's overland journey from London through Eurasia to Australia, an origin that established the brand's emphasis on on-the-ground travel and first-hand observation. Since then, Lonely Planet has continued to release travel guides for a wide range of destinations, covering more than 180 countries and regions and distinguished by independent field research. The collection here includes 81 of its works, spanning city guides, regional travel and trekking routes; representative titles include Kyoto, Best of the US Western National Parks, Trekking in Nepal, Florence and Surroundings, San Francisco and the Bay Area, Kansai, Jerusalem and Understanding Israel and Palestine, with travel as the common category. These guides are known for practical information, clear structure and close attention to travelers' actual needs, and they have had a broad influence among travelers worldwide.
