John Milton

John Milton is one of the major poets in the history of English literature, though the library holds no record of his birth and death dates or nationality, and available public information is limited. The library contains eight of his works, mostly in English, including Books I to III of Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, Samson Agonistes, Comus, and Miltons Comus. Written chiefly in blank verse and drawing on the Bible and classical tradition, these works explore faith, temptation, free will, and fall, with grand scope and rich imagery. Paradise Lost is his most celebrated work and secured his important place in world literature; some works are also categorized as inspirational growth writing for their portrayal of endurance and growth.
