James Fenimore Cooper

James Fenimore Cooper (1789–1851) was an American writer and one of the founders of American national literature. He served in the navy in his early years, an experience that laid the groundwork for his later sea fiction. He is best known for his frontier adventure novels, the Leatherstocking Tales, including The Last of the Mohicans, The Pathfinder, and The Pioneers, which shaped images of the North American wilderness and Native Americans. He also wrote sea novels such as The Spy and The Pilot. Cooper was among the first American novelists to gain an international reputation. His works generally fall under foreign literature, and this library holds thirty of his works, mostly in English editions.
