Gordon, Harry

Gordon, Harry is an author of English juvenile adventure fiction about whose life little is publicly known; his nationality, dates of birth and death, and educational background are not clearly recorded. Eight of his works are held in this collection, all belonging to the River Motor Boat Boys series, with stories set respectively on the Ohio, the Amazon, the Mississippi, the St. Lawrence, the Columbia, the Yukon, the Rio Grande, and the Colorado. Each follows a group of boys on motor-boat voyages as they solve mysteries and pursue clues. Judging from the surviving titles, he was skilled at combining river geography with adventure plots and wrote steadily in series form. The books show the brisk pacing and upbeat adventurous spirit typical of early twentieth-century juvenile reading, and will appeal to readers interested in classic boys' adventure stories.
