Chatto & Windus

Chatto & Windus is a long-established British publishing house known for literature and general reading. The seven works held here are all book lists and catalogues issued by the firm between 1878 and 1892, including lists dated May 1883, July 1878, October 1892, November 1887 and September 1891, along with alphabetical catalogues of fiction and general literature. Arranged by date and category, these materials record the titles and publication details of books in print and serve as primary sources for studying the firm's publishing direction and the late nineteenth-century British book market. As public information is limited, the founder and institutional history are not discussed here; this introduction focuses on the surviving catalogue works.
