Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was one of the most outstanding novelists of the Victorian era in Britain. Forced by family poverty to leave school and work as a child laborer, he later became a parliamentary reporter, an experience that gave him a deep understanding of the hardships of the lower classes. His major works include The Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations. With humor and satire, he exposed social injustice and created many vivid characters. Our site holds 78 of his works, including English editions of Little Dorrit and A Christmas Carol, mostly categorized under foreign literature and inspirational growth, and he remains widely read today.
